I wanted this music video to echo the deep and melancholic nature of the song. I was able to budget with the artist to afford a hand-painted backdrop which became a main feature of the video. We chose to shoot on Blackmagic cameras for the film-like color science and general softness, using a mix of vintage and modern lenses. The shots moving towards the subject were all done using an old-fashioned manual slider which gave it a more natural/human feel. Everyone you see featured in the video was a volunteer which Gentle Death was able to coordinate wonderfully, with pizza and free merch. We were fortunate for not only their help but the willingness of everyone from gaffers to production assistants. It was a fun and beautiful experience to help these ideas and emotions come to life as I scripted, directed, and edited this video.
